Christmas Tartan Dish
This dish begam its life as two seperate pieces that were too fragile to be dishes on their own (which is what they were designed to be.) One was 6" x 6" and the other was 5.5" x 5.5". Each were made by laying out glass stringers - thin pieces of glass that look like spaghetti and then fusing them into a solid piece and then slumping into their dish shape. Since I didn't like their fragility alone and I didn't want to scrap the tediuous work that went into each of them I decided to combine them into a larger piece.
I fused the larger tartan onto a white background and added a border; and I slumped the smaller piece over a clear glass "foot". Then, I slumped the larger piece onto the smaller piece to create the completed Christmas Tartan platter.
This piece is 8.5" square and stands about 2" tall at the corners. It has a lovely swooped shape and is food safe.
